Junior Chaz Lanier showcased an impressive streak of performances at the First Coast Classic, securing his inaugural ASUN Player of the Week award. The conference office revealed this recognition on a Monday afternoon.
Coach Matthew Driscoll commended Lanier’s holistic development, citing his physical, mental, and internal growth as exemplary for any student-athlete. Driscoll emphasized Lanier’s adept handling of the pressure, stepping into unfamiliar roles and performing admirably. Reflecting on the team’s journey, Driscoll highlighted the significance of trust in the process and unity within the team, attributing Lanier’s achievement to their collective effort and belief in the ethos of ‘Team Together.’
Lanier’s accolade marks a significant milestone for the Ospreys, making him the first recipient of the ASUN Player of the Week award since Jarius Hicklen in February 2022. Notably, he stands as the 17th distinct player from UNF to earn this conference honor and the sixth to clinch it as early as November.
Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Lanier impressively maintained a consistent performance level across three consecutive days of competition. He achieved double-digit points in each of the three games, notably securing a double-double against Northwestern State, a feat bolstered by a career-high 10 rebounds. Additionally, Lanier’s standout performance in the weekend finale against Maine included a personal best of five made three-pointers.
Looking ahead, the Ospreys are set to resume their schedule on the road, squaring off against LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Friday, November 24, at 8 p.m. ET.
